Operation & Maintenance of the Hydrological Network & OBS Wells in the Kingdom

Monitoring

ClientMEWA

Overview

ERCAN operated and maintained the national hydrological observation network — the distributed sensor grid that tells Saudi Arabia how much water it has and where it moves.

Scope

  • Water management for OBS wells (manual & automatic, 700+ stations)
  • Operation & maintenance of rainfall stations (320+)
  • Operation & maintenance of weather/climate stations (90+)
  • Operation & maintenance of dam stations (30+) & discharge stations (40+)
  • Water-resources management & telemetric plan
  • Sensor calibration, database build & data interpretation/modelling

Engineering Challenge

Maintaining accuracy and uptime across more than a thousand stations of mixed generations, spread across the entire Kingdom, in extreme environmental conditions.

Delivery & Outcome

A disciplined telemetric and maintenance programme: sensor calibration for automatic stations, structured database construction, and continuous data interpretation and modelling across rainfall, weather, dam and discharge stations.

A reliable, calibrated national dataset underpinning water-resource decisions — sustained over more than three years of unbroken operation.
